Kaiser Wins Sunoco Daytona Prize

29th September 2010

360 Racing’s Ross Kaiser has become the second Radical driver to win the Sunoco Rolex 24 At Daytona Challenge, after a dominant season in the Competition Car Insurance Radical UK Cup. Beating drivers from a range of UK championships, Ross’ prize is an all-expenses-paid drive in a Daytona Prototype in the Rolex 24, held at Daytona International Speedway on 29/30 January 2011.

Ross did everything he could at Silverstone with a brace of wins, but it was down to last weekend’s performance by British F3 driver Jean-Eric Vergne, Ross’ closest Challenge rival, to determine who would go to the USA. Vergne needed at least a win and a second-place finish; with a fourth in his first race, the prize was Kaiser’s.

Kaiser will get three days of testing in the UK in a DP (Daytona Prototype) car, before heading out to Florida for a three-day test before the event. Ross will then get a race seat in the prestigious endurance classic, and with his extensive Radical and sportscar racing experience, he hopes to make an impression.

“I’ve worked really hard to build my racing career; I instruct, driver coach and race with Terrance Woodward, but it can be a struggle to get by, particularly through the winter,” said Kaiser. “To have the chance to race at one of greatest endurance races in the world with one of the top teams is a fantastic opportunity which I hope will enable me to move on to a professional racing career.”

“You couldn’t dream of a better prize and it is a fantastic opportunity for any upcoming driver. A lot of effort goes into the challenge by the Sunoco team, even the way the points are worked out. Without doubt, this is a once in a life time opportunity that just wouldn’t be possible without Sunoco.”

“I’m looking forward to get into the Daytona Prototype and get used to the car before the big race. I had a chance to try the car at the Silverstone media day and I fully understand why so many professional drivers are excited about racing them. I now look forward to building on that experience. I look forward to being an ambassador for Daytona, Radical and Sunoco for 2011 and to represent British motorsport abroad.”

Kaiser is team-mate to Derek Johnston, who won the challenge last year, driving a Doran Racing Dallara DP in the 2010 race. For his report from the 2010 race, click here.
