Radical European Masters: Parkalgar, 01-02 August 2009

5th August 2009

The new, dramatic Parkalgar circuit in Portugal hosted two thrilling races, during the third round of the 2009 Radical European Masters. In perfect, clear racing conditions, over 25 cars competed in each action-packed race.Qualifying saw Derek Johnston and Stuart Moseley take pole position for Race 1, with less than three-tenths of a second splitting them from Jeff Collier and Alex Kapadia. For Race 2, Jamie Patterson posted the fastest time, closely followed by Cameron MacDonald and Nigel Greensall. In Race 1, Collier/Kapadia made a rapid getaway to lead on the first lap, but they were caught and passed by Johnston/Mosely on lap 4, who then held position to the chequered flag. Behind, an off on lap 12 for John Stanley and James Swift cost them a potential podium finish, dropping back to 13th but recovering to fifth by the end of the race. Their misfortune handed the third spot on the podium to Filip Berg-Nielsen, after a last-lap move by Collier/Kapadia for the second spot.Race 2 saw MacDonald/Greensall hold the front for most of the race, but a daring move by Collier/Kapadia on lap 20 paid off, the pair leading to the finish line after making up 18 seconds in only eight laps. MacDonald/Greensall had to be content with second, with Johnston/Moseley coming home third. The next round of the series is in three week’s time, at the Nürburgring, Germany on 22-23 August.
